Ministry Awards Scholarships for Higher Education in Malaysia
The Ministry of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development has awarded scholarships to five students to pursue studies in diverse fields at Malaysian institutions.
The scholarships were presented by the Minister of Higher Education, Labour, and Skills Development, Dr Mariyam Mairya, during a special ceremony.
The recipients were selected through a draw conducted during the Dhaalan: National Skills and Career Expo 2024. In collaboration with Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), the scholarships will support studies in journalism, artificial intelligence, software engineering, marine biotechnology, and digital media.
In September, the Maldives signed an agreement with EMGS to offer 561 scholarships to Maldivian students, enabling them to study at selected Malaysian institutions with significant financial benefits. Under this arrangement, students enrolled at Malaysian universities will receive a 70% discount on course fees.
The ministry highlighted that this opportunity is available to students currently studying in Malaysia as well as those intending to pursue higher education there through loans. The initiative aims to enhance access to quality education and bolster the skills of Maldivian youth in strategic fields.
