Ministry of Sports Awards Contracts to Complete Unfinished Sports Projects
The Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation has awarded contracts to three state-owned companies—Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC), Fenaka Corporation Limited, and Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC)—to complete unfinished sports projects across the Maldives.
The agreements were signed by the Ministry’s Minister Abdulla Rafiu, with MTCC represented by Managing Director Deputy Commissioner of Police (Retired) Ahmed Saudi, Fenaka by Managing Director Mohamed Najah, and RDC by Managing Director Brigadier General (Retired) Ali Zuhair.
Fenaka Corporation will oversee the development of football grounds in Kamadhoo (Baa Atoll) and Maaen’boodhoo (Dhaalu Atoll), as well as the installation of lighting at Kurendhoo Football Ground. It will also procure drag brush machines for turf installation across four islands. The lighting system installation in Kurendhoo is valued at USD 103,761.35, with completion expected in 90 days.
The turf installation at Kamadhoo Football Ground is set at USD 304,798.96 for completion in 60 days, while the Maaen’boodhoo project, valued at USD 389,105.06, will be completed in 120 days. Additionally, drag brush machines and benches for football grounds in Kendhoo, Thulhaadhoo, and Meedhoo are contracted for USD 103,761.35 with a 60-day completion period.
RDC is tasked with finishing indoor badminton courts in Kaashidhoo (Kaafu Atoll), Hangnaameedhoo (Alifu Dhaalu Atoll), Maalhos (Baa Atoll), and Thoddoo (Alifu Alifu Atoll). This includes turf supply and drag brush machine procurement at Kaashidhoo, valued at USD 5,603.11 for completion in 45 days.
Hangnaameedhoo’s football ground development, including turf, walls, and fencing, is contracted for USD 376,134.89, with a 90-day deadline. Maalhos’ football ground project, valued at USD 771,725.03, includes similar developments plus lighting and a rostrum, to be completed within three months. Thoddoo’s indoor badminton hall, valued at USD 324,254.22, is expected to take 190 days.
MTCC will construct surrounding walls, fences, and procure brush machines for football grounds in Dhiffushi (Kaafu Atoll) and Muraidhoo (Haa Alifu Atoll). It is also responsible for establishing a fitness and recreation centre in Bilehfahi (Shaviyani Atoll).
The Dhiffushi project, valued at USD 77,821.01, includes fence installation and drag brush machine procurement, with a 50-day deadline. Muraidhoo’s project, valued at USD 97,276.26, involves similar work with completion expected in 60 days. The Bilehfahi centre is set to be completed within six months, with a budget of USD 298,313.88. All football ground works in Dhiffushi and Muraidhoo are to be completed within two months.
