The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has reannounced its call for a helicopter service provider, a move initially made in August and reiterated again.
The ministry is inviting proposals from companies to provide a range of services across the country.
Under the announced service, the selected company will be responsible for operating air ambulance services, supporting search-and-rescue operations nationwide, and transporting passengers for the tourism industry on a commercial basis. The ministry has specified that the chosen provider will hold exclusive rights to conduct tourism passenger flights for a period of 10 years.
The deadline for submissions of the Request for Proposal (RFP) is 25th December.
Earlier this year, a Dash 8 aircraft and a seaplane were introduced in the Maldives to serve as air ambulances, aimed at facilitating emergency medical evacuations. Following the return of Indian military personnel, who had been operating the Dornier aircraft and two helicopters gifted by India, civilian experts from the country have been managing these aircraft since last year.
