The Ministry of Social and Family Development opens up the process for institutions seeking to obtain the “Gender Equality Seal”.
According to the Ministry, the application process for the Gender Equality Seal will be open from 20 October to 21 December 2025. Institutions interested in applying must complete the self-assessment form linked to the announcement for the award published in the Gazette. The forms must be submitted through the official email address: genderseal@msfd.gov.mv.
The self-assessments are divided into three award levels: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. Each form will be based on a maximum score of 50 points. Institutions achieving the required score for each level will be eligible for the seal. Each institution applying for the Seal must complete the assessment form corresponding to their desired award level.
The Gender Equality Seal award recognises institutions in the public, private, and civil society sectors that contribute to promoting gender equality through their policies, organisational frameworks, and services.
Institutions applying for the Gender Equality Seal will be assessed under six main areas:
- Leadership and Accountability: Evaluation of the institution’s commitment to gender equality through its policies and decision-making structures.
- Human Resources and Workplace Equality: Assessment of human resource policies and workplace practices in supporting gender equality.
- Organisational Culture and Capacity: Evaluation of how the institution’s culture and capacity contribute to gender equality.
- Service Delivery and Programming: Review of the institution’s services and programmes to determine gender inclusiveness.
- Data Monitoring and Evaluation: Assessment of mechanisms for data collection, analysis, and monitoring to support gender equality initiatives.
- Partnerships and Public Engagement: Evaluation of the institution’s collaboration with other entities, communities, and stakeholders to advance gender equality.
The Gender Equality Seal was introduced by President Mohamed Muizzu on 24 December, 2023, at the Ministry’s annual conference. The award is based on the Gender Equality Act, and forms part of the Gender Equality Action Plan, designed to encourage institutions to strengthen mechanisms promoting gender equality in the Maldives.
