Ministry Partners With Kinolhas Council to Launch Commercial Poultry Farming Programme

MV+ News Desk | November 22, 2025

The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare, in partnership with Kinolhas Council of Raa Atoll, is set to launch a commercial poultry farming programme on the island.

The initiative forms part of the government’s broader efforts to strengthen food security in the Maldives. Following a call for proposals, the Kinolhas Council submitted the strongest bid, leading to the signing of an agreement with the Ministry to implement the project locally.

Kinolhas has a long-standing tradition of poultry farming, with residents raising chickens for many years. The island’s development plans include poultry farming, with 20,000 square feet of land designated for the purpose. The programme is expected to benefit nearby tourism, as the island is in close proximity to 18 resorts, increasing demand for locally produced eggs.

The commercial poultry farming programme in Kinolhas is scheduled to begin in December.
