The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has delayed the opening of housing scheme applications for persons with disabilities to 1 April.

The government had previously planned to open applications tomorrow. However, in an announcement issued today, the ministry said it will begin accepting applications at 11:00 a.m. on 1 April, without disclosing a reason for the delay.

According to the ministry, individuals with disabilities are eligible to apply if they have resided in the Greater Malé Area for more than five years. The eligibility criteria also extend to those whose financial circumstances prevent them from living in the area, but who have sought treatment in Greater Malé over the past year due to the unavailability of specialised care in their home island or atoll.

The ministry stated that details of the required documentation will be outlined in the gazetted announcement. Applicants must provide proof of registration in the national disability registry or certification from a healthcare provider confirming their disability. Those receiving treatment in Greater Malé must also submit documents showing that such care is unavailable in their atolls and that they have been undergoing treatment in the capital.

A total of 100 flats have been allocated under this category. The ministry said applications must be submitted through the designated online portal.
