The Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare has announced the recruitment of a consultant to assist in two key agricultural initiatives, the cultivation of moringa plants and coconut palm trees.

According to the ministry, a previous announcement for a consultant under the moringa project did not receive any bids. As a result, the recruitment process has been reopened, with interested applicants invited to submit proposals by 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, 16 October.

The moringa cultivation project aims to raise awareness about the plant’s nutritional and health benefits, promote sustainable cultivation, and support wider use across the Maldives. Although moringa is already grown locally and in other Asian countries, the ministry noted that it remains underutilised despite its many advantages.

The selected consultant will be engaged for a 30-day period. Their responsibilities will include conducting a project study, preparing a comprehensive list of required materials and costs, and developing a master plan for the initiative.

The ministry is also seeking a consultant for the Coconut Cultivation Programme, which focuses on preventing the decline of coconut trees due to ageing and other contributing factors. The initiative is part of ongoing efforts to preserve one of the country’s most important agricultural resources.
