The new facility is expected to be completed within 24 months. It will include modern amenities designed to meet the needs of senior citizens, such as regular health screenings, specialised medical care, and dedicated mental health relaxation zones. The centre will also feature outdoor recreational areas and a reading space aimed at promoting physical activity and emotional well-being.
The Minister of State for Social and Family Development, Ibrahim Ismail Ali, signed the agreement on behalf of the government. HDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair signed on behalf of the corporation. The project reflects the government’s commitment to improving the quality of life for the elderly by ensuring access to reliable, high-quality care.
The development follows the success of an earlier senior citizen centre in Hulhumalé Phase II near the Hiyaa flats, which began operating this year. With the addition of a second facility, authorities aim to set a standard for elder care services in the Maldives and ensure that older residents receive support in a modern and nurturing environment.
