Prior to this, the council had announced plans to renovate Rasfannu Beach and Sultan Park following comments from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The president highlighted the deteriorating condition of both locations in a tweet after visiting them with his family.

The council had also stated that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) had issued the necessary environmental permits to replenish the sand at Rasfannu. It had further noted that a contractor had been selected for the project and was scheduled to commence work the following week.
