The Ministry of Social and Family Development has revealed plans to inaugurate the inaugural social centre for senior citizens in February.
Abdulla Ashraf, the Social Services Coordinator at the Ministry of Social and Family Development, emphasised the vital role that senior citizens play in societal development. He articulated that the conception of these centres is rooted in the intention to honour and provide a comfortable environment for the elderly.
Furthermore, Ashraf highlighted that the centres are meticulously designed not only to safeguard the mental and social well-being of senior citizens but also to create a secure and welcoming space for their interactions. The inaugural centre is currently in development at the former Centre for Holy Quran premises in Male’ City, with plans for its official opening scheduled for February.
In addition to these developments, the government has taken a decisive step to improve senior citizens’ access to specialised healthcare services. This decision is part of a broader effort to enhance the overall well-being of the elderly population, aligning with the establishment of dedicated social centres.
