Ministry to Re-Draw Gedhoruveriyaa Flats for Applicants Scoring Above 76 Points

MV+ News Desk | August 7, 2025

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that a new draw will be conducted for recipients of the Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme who scored more than 76 points but were not allocated flats under the previous government.

This move follows public concern after 301 applicants with scores above 76 were left without flats, while 315 individuals who scored 75 points were awarded units in the previous allocation. The ministry stated that the re-draw will cover those with 76 points or higher who were excluded from the earlier draw. A specific date for the new draw is expected to be announced shortly.

Under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme, the ministry confirmed that only one flat will be issued to couples who applied separately and both qualified. Affected couples have been notified via the Gedhoruveriyaa portal and instructed to complete a formal process.

This includes signing and submitting a “Declaration of Vacation of Flat” within five working days, along with the original notarised declaration and notary public certificate to the Ministry’s service counter. The final affidavit must also be uploaded and approved through the portal using either spouse’s e-pass.

In parallel, the ministry has lodged a formal request with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), seeking a criminal investigation into the previous decision to allocate flats to applicants who scored 75 points before awarding units to those with higher scores.

Former State Minister for Housing Akram Kamaluddin, who oversaw the scheme under the previous administration, has defended the allocation policy, stating that a single flat was intended for each qualifying couple, even if both applied separately. He said lists were created to identify such cases and avoid duplicate allocations.
