The nationwide programme aims to equip farmers with essential scientific knowledge and practical skills to support the long-term sustainability and profitability of agriculture.
Ministry teams have been travelling across the country to deliver training programmes tailored to island conditions. The sessions focus on advanced farming techniques, including hydroponics and greenhouse cultivation, to help farmers improve productivity and better manage environmental challenges.
In addition to crop production, the Ministry has expanded its focus to post-harvest training. This component encourages farmers to move beyond selling raw produce by adopting value-addition practices. Participants receive technical guidance on processing their harvests into marketable products such as juices, jams, dried fruits, vegetables, and other processed goods.
According to the Ministry, this shift is intended to address two major financial challenges commonly faced by farmers. By converting raw fruits and vegetables into processed items, producers are expected to benefit from significantly longer shelf life and improved financial returns, contributing to greater stability within the farming sector.
