Ministry Updates Allocation and Eligibility for Special Category Flats under “Family Housing” Scheme

The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has revised the eligibility criteria and allocation numbers for special category flats under the ‘Family Housing’ scheme.
Under the updated housing policy published yesterday, 1,000 flats have been included in the special category. The amendments outline the number of flats assigned to each sector:
- Judiciary sector – 100 flats
- Maldives Police Service (MPS) – 100 flats
- Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) – 100 flats
- Civil service – 200 flats
- Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) – 100 flats
Applicants must have worked full-time in one of the five sectors for at least one year and must agree to continue working in the sector as determined by the authority once housing is handed over.
In addition, 400 flats have been allocated for employees in 24 other institutions. These institutions include:
- Presidential Office (including Muliaage and Hilaaleege staff)
- Parliament Administration
- Attorney General’s Office (AGO)
- Judicial Service Commission (JSC)
- Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM)
- Civil Service Commission (CSC)
- Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM)
- Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)
- Auditor General’s Office
- Prosecutor General’s Office
- Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA)
- Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA)
- Pension Office
- National Integrity Commission (NIC)
- Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC)
- Family Protection Authority (FPA)
- National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)
- Children’s Ombudsperson’s Office
- Employment Tribunal
- Local Government Authority (LGA)
- Tax Appeal Tribunal
- Civil Aviation Authority (CAA)
- Capital Market Development Authority (CMDA)
- Maldives Energy Authority (MEA)
Eligibility for these flats requires applicants to have resided in Malé City, worked in their institution for at least one year, and agree to continue working in the sector as determined by the authority once housing is handed over.
Recipients will be selected according to the policy set by the authority. Overall, the Family Housing programme will allocate a total of 15,000 flats of 1,250 square feet and 7,900 flats under the broader housing programme. Both schemes are open to residents of Malé and those who have lived in the city for at least 15 years.
The deadline for applications is 30 April 2026.
