MMA Research Conference 2025 Kicks Off At Paradise Island Resort

The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) started the 2025 edition of its Research Conference yesterday at Villa Nautica Paradise Island Resort, marking the highest attendance since the event was introduced.
The panel discussion “Beyond Banking – Islamic Finance as a Tool for Social Transformation” has successfully wrapped up, offering deep perspectives on how Islamic finance can drive meaningful social and economic impact.

A total of 240 participants are taking part in the two-day forum. This year’s conference saw the launch of two major publications. The Island Economist, MMA’s new economic and financial magazine, was introduced by the Chief Guest, Education Minister Dr Ismail Shafeeu. MMA also unveiled the latest issue of its research journal, the Maldives Journal of Economics and Finance, launched by Dr Aishath Muniza, a Professor and Associate Dean at INSIEF University in Malaysia.
The event additionally featured the presentation of awards and cash prizes to the finalists of the Tamweel Finlit Festival 2025, recognising achievements in financial literacy initiatives.
Scholarly participation has increased notably, with 40 research papers being presented, including work by more than 20 international researchers. Organisers reported receiving 39 submissions for research funding and 20 articles for the inaugural edition of The Island Economist.
The MMA Research Conference, first held in 2024, is now in its second year as an annual platform for economic and financial research.
