The Maldives Media Council (MMC) engaged in discussions with the Pakistan High Commission in the Maldives concerning potential training and capacity-building initiatives for Maldivian journalists facilitated by educational institutions in Pakistan.
The meeting, held in the presence of MMC’s President, Ahmed Musthafa, members Mohamed Afrah and Ali Nishan, Secretary General Ibrahim Sameer, Pakistani High Commissioner to the Maldives Vice Admiral (Retired) Muhammed Fayyaz Gilani, and Deputy High Commissioner Zulqurnain Ahmad, aimed to explore avenues for enhancing the skills and knowledge of media professionals in the Maldives.
According to MMC, the meeting served as a follow-up to the council’s expressed interest in media professional capacity development in January of the previous year, resulting in constructive outcomes.
In response to MMC’s proposals, the High Commissioner affirmed the arrangements being made for training visits for journalists, slated to commence in June of the current year. These visits are anticipated to include immersive training sessions in journalism and media, alongside visits to prominent media establishments in Pakistan.
Furthermore, MMC disclosed that the High Commissioner pledged ongoing support towards materialising a Memorandum of Understanding between MMC and the Pakistani Ministry of Information and Broadcasting aimed at fostering collaborative efforts in the media sector.
