MMS Issues White Alert Across Maldives

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) declared a nationwide white alert today.

The MMS issued the alert from 1400 hours to 2000  hours. The forecast warns of heavy rains and thunderstorms, with gusts of wind up to 45 mph.

The alert follows several days of heavy rainfall across the Maldives, during which MMS has been regularly issuing weather warnings.

MMS has forecasted heavy rainfall for all of the Maldives for the next two days.

MMS categorises weather alerts as follows:

• White alert: Alert Level 1
• Yellow advisory: Alert Level 2
• Orange warning: Alert Level 3
• Red warning: Alert Level 4
