The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has announced a series of special events in Malé and Thinadhoo City to commemorate Victory Day.
The commemorations in Malé began this morning with prayers at the Islamic Centre, followed by a flag-raising and guard-mounting ceremony at the November 3 Memorial at 06:00 hrs. A Victory Day gathering was held at the Social Centre at 09:00 hrs, while a military parade is scheduled to take place at Republic Square at 16:15 hrs.
MNDF area commands across the country are also holding morning prayers and flag-raising ceremonies in their respective regions as part of the observance.
In addition to the capital’s events, Thinadhoo City will host an army photo exhibition, a military presentation, and a children’s event on 7 and 8 November.
Victory Day is observed annually to mark the defeat of the 1988 coup attempt and to honour the sacrifices made to protect the nation’s sovereignty.
