The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has issued a statement clarifying public access to the Islamic Centre, following concerns raised on social media regarding prayer restrictions during ongoing Independence Day celebrations.
The MNDF addressed complaints circulating among media outlets and on social platforms, asserting that there are no impediments to individuals wishing to pray at the mosque.

In their statement, released today, the MNDF acknowledged the implementation of security measures in the Republic Square area. These measures, in effect from 13:00 today until the conclusion of Independence Day events, include restrictions on public and vehicular entry and exit to the vicinity.
Despite these precautions, the MNDF explicitly stated, “please note that there is no restriction to the public from praying in the mosque to pray. There will be no obstacle to any person at any time in walking in the area.”
However, with vehicle access to the Republic Square area curtailed for Independence Day activities, the MNDF has advised mosque attendees to park their vehicles outside the designated zone and proceed to the mosque on foot. The statement concluded with a note of thanks for public cooperation.
