The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has concluded its annual Fire Prevention Week, held nationwide from 1 to 7 February, aimed at raising public awareness on fire safety and prevention.
The programme took place across the country, including sessions at four schools in the Greater Malé area—Aminiya School, Muhyiddin School, Rehendhi School and S’alaah’udhdheen School—as well as at all atoll Area Command Centres.
During the week, MNDF personnel demonstrated practical fire safety techniques, including the correct use of fire blankets to extinguish fires. Participants were also educated on safe fire practices and the common causes of fires, particularly those arising from kitchen accidents and electrical faults.
The final session of Fire Prevention Week was held on Saturday evening from 8.00pm to 10.00pm at Rehendhi School in Hulhumalé. While the scheduled activities have concluded, the MNDF stated that additional fire safety and prevention programmes will take place later this year.
Participants in the sessions were entered into a lucky draw, with prizes awarded to selected winners.
Fire Prevention Week has been organised annually by the MNDF since 2012, typically ahead of Ramadan, and is held both in Malé and across the atolls as part of its ongoing public safety outreach.
