According to the MNDF, the operation aims to address safety risks arising from vessels operating without valid licences or failing to comply with marine safety regulations. The inspection is being conducted in collaboration with MNDF area commands, with checks taking place on vessels departing from or arriving at harbours across various islands.
The operation involves verifying compliance with mandatory safety requirements to ensure the safety of both vessels and passengers. It also includes checking that the conditions outlined in safety certificates are met, ensuring marine VHF systems are operational, and confirming that vessel captains hold valid licences.
The MNDF stated that necessary measures will be taken to ensure vessels operate in full compliance with marine safety laws and regulations, with the goal of safeguarding lives and property at sea.
