The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) held its anniversary parade, showcasing newly acquired armoured vehicles as part of the military’s ongoing efforts to modernise its fleet.

The parade commenced yesterday in the Bandaarakoshi area and concluded near the Presidential Office. The event marked the first public display of the updated armoured vehicles, which have been added to enhance operational capabilities.

According to MNDF Command Sergeant Major Abdulla Saeed, while similar vehicles have previously been used by the military, the models introduced on Saturday reflect updated designs. He noted that the vehicles are suited for both soft and hard terrain and are intended for deployment across MNDF’s area commands and within the capital region.

The Ministry of Defence has not released further details or specifications of the new additions.

Separately, Turkey recently announced plans to donate a marine vessel to the Maldives, equipped with missile-launching capabilities.
