MNDF, Police Respond to Fishing Vessel Fire Near Malé, with 15 Onboard

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and Maldives Police Service are currently engaged in an operation to assist a fishing vessel that caught fire near Malé a few hours ago.

According to the MNDF, its Hulhumalé Fire Station began responding after a fishing boat carrying 15 people caught fire near K. Dhoonidhoo. The vessel was reported to be burning extensively at the time emergency services were deployed.

Police also confirmed that they received reports of the incident at approximately 2:45pm and are active at the scene alongside the MNDF.

Authorities stated that efforts are underway to transport injured individuals to Malé, with assistance from a vessel dispatched from Kurumba Maldives resort.

The exact number of injuries and the severity of those injured have not yet been confirmed. Further details are expected as the operation continues.
