MNP to Back Muizzu for Presidential Runoff

The Maldives National Party (MNP) has officially endorsed the presidential candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu from People’s National Congress (PNC) for the forthcoming presidential runoff election. 

This endorsement was determined by a majority vote during a meeting held last night.

The party has not yet issued an official statement regarding this matter. Nevertheless, indications from party insiders suggest that a statement outlining the decisions made during the meeting will be made available in due course.

MNP’s President, Mohamed Nazim, was one of the candidates in the initial round of the presidential election held on Saturday, facing competition from seven other contenders. 

As none of the candidates managed to secure the required 50 percent majority for a decisive victory in the initial round, a second round of voting was confirmed, emphasising the importance of forming strategic alliances with other parties to secure a win.

The second round of the presidential election is scheduled to take place on September 30.
