The court has sentenced Mohamed Nabeel, also known as Yaaya, to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of cannabis trafficking. In addition to the custodial sentence, he has been fined MVR 100,000. Further details regarding the ruling remain unavailable, as the court’s judgment has not yet been made public.
Yaaya had gained notoriety for appearing on TikTok dressed as a woman and engaging in behaviour widely criticised as immoral. His activities on the platform have drawn sustained public attention and complaints over recent years.
This is not the first time Yaaya has faced legal consequences. In 2022, he was sentenced to one year and one month in prison by the Criminal Court. The case involved charges related to nudity on TikTok, as well as the production and possession of pornography.
Despite multiple arrests and ongoing public concern, many have previously expressed frustration at the perceived lack of action against his social media conduct. Authorities have now taken firm legal measures following the outcome of the latest case.
