More Than 1,500 Students Move to Malé Area for Grade 1 Enrolment

A total of 1,530 students have migrated from the atolls to the Malé area for Grade 1 enrolment, according to the latest enrolment figures for the upcoming academic year, according to figures shared by the Ministry of Education. 

Overall, 1,748 students have been enrolled in Grade 1 schools across the Malé area. Of those, 1,530 are students who relocated from the atolls. The breakdown shows that 753 students moved to Hulhumalé, 694 to Malé, and 83 to Vilimalé for the purpose of Grade 1 enrolment.

In the atolls, 3,041 students have been enrolled in Grade 1. Meanwhile, 836 students have migrated from the Malé area to Hulhumalé for Grade 1 enrolment, indicating continued population movement between urban centres.

According to the academic calender shared by the ministry, the first term of the academic year is scheduled to begin on 27 January, Tuesday of next week, and will run until 16 July, marking the end of the first term.
