Motorcyclist Arrested Over Fatal Accident On Laamu Link Road

A motorcyclist has been arrested in connection with a fatal road accident that occurred on Friday evening on the Laamu Link Road near L. Kahdhdhoo.

The collision happened at around 19:18 when a motorcycle travelling from Fonadhoo to Gan struck two pedestrians crossing towards Kadhdhoo Airport. The crash left the rider, his passenger, a 64-year-old woman, and her grandchild injured.

The 64-year-old woman later died while receiving treatment at Gan Regional Hospital. Police have identified the motorcyclist as 37-year-old Mohamed Nausan of Hoaravilla, L. Fonadhoo. He has been remanded in custody for 15 days while investigations continue.

The incident follows a rise in serious accidents on the Laamu Link Road. In a separate case, a woman injured in a Gan accident on 6 July died on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
