Central Hithadhoo MP Ahmed Azaan has called for answers from Health Minister Abdulla Nazim over the lack of cardiology services in Addu City, highlighting the urgent need for treatment options in a region with a high incidence of heart disease.

MP Azaan raised the issue in parliament, expressing concern over the continued absence of cardiology services at the Addu hospital. He noted that although a catheterisation laboratory has been established at the facility, it has not yet been brought into operation.
He questioned the Health Minister on the reasons behind the delay, pointing out that many patients suffering from heart attacks and other cardiovascular conditions in Addu have, over the past three years, been transferred to Malé for treatment due to the unavailability of services in the city.
Emphasising the importance of providing care locally, Azaan underscored the need for timely arrangements to treat cardiac patients in Addu, which is home to the second largest population in the Maldives after the capital.
In addition to the challenges in healthcare, Azaan drew attention to broader concerns over the quality of basic services in Addu City. Among the most persistent problems are frequent power outages, which have continued for months without a long-term solution from the utility provider.
