MPL Holds Discussions With Gov’t Regarding Relocation of Commercial Port
The recently appointed CEO of MPL (Maldives Ports Limited), Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim, has revealed that MPL is currently in discussions with the government regarding the potential relocation of the Malé Commercial Port.
The focus of these talks is to explore the possibility of moving the port away from Male’ City, indicating a potential departure from the previous administration’s emphasis on Gulhifalhu.
Dredging activities, led by Boskalis of the Netherlands, have already commenced on a 192-hectare land project designed to support the port’s relocation and provide housing for the Male’ populace.
The government’s plan places a priority on the construction of the transshipment port in the Greater Male Area. Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Mohamed Saeed, has suggested that further details regarding the project’s implementation will be announced in due course.
