Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced plans to implement an electronic vehicle queue system at the Hulhumalé Terminal from 21 September, with the aim of streamlining goods discharge and improving service efficiency.
The initiative forms part of MPL’s wider efforts to modernise operations and reduce delays. The electronic system will replace the existing manual process, which is expected to shorten waiting times and ease congestion at the terminal.
To register, applicants must download a form from the MPL website and submit it to the company’s office. MPL has also outlined specific eligibility criteria for participation. Vehicle owners registered at the Malé Commercial Harbour Vehicle Queue Counter must formally request removal from that queue and have their registration cancelled before joining the new system.
Eligibility requirements include Maldivian citizenship, registration of the vehicle in Zone A, and classification of vehicles weighing one tonne or above as pickups.
MPL stated that the change will accelerate the clearance of goods and improve the overall quality of services provided to the public. The company expects the system to be well received by both importers and the wider community.
