Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced that efforts are underway to provide water and electricity services to vessels docking in front of the Malé Local Market.
In a post last night, MPL said cargo and passenger vessels that were temporarily relocated to the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) area and the Hulhumalé petrol jetty during redevelopment works on Boduthakurufaanu Magu have now returned to the ‘A’ zone of Malé North Harbour.
The company stated that work is ongoing to establish electricity and water connections for vessels using the area.
MPL added that 36 new dock cleats have been installed in North Harbour, replacing damaged fixtures. The upgrade is expected to improve safety for vessels docking at the harbour.
The authority also said preparations are in place to shift vessels to the ‘B’ zone, located along the west side wall of North Harbour, in the coming weeks.
North Harbour reopened for cargo and passenger vessels on Thursday. Meanwhile, Malé Bazaar Road has been reopened ahead of Ramadan following the widening of Boduthakurufaanu Magu, a move aimed at easing long-standing congestion in the area.
