The Maldives Qualification Authority (MQA) said on Tuesday that courses approved to be taught in the Maldives are being taught abroad, and as such certificates issued from such institutions will not be accepted.

that it will not accept “MQA accredited” courses and programs taught abroad and will not take responsibility for any losses the enrolled or graduated students may suffer as a result. xxx

In the gazetted notice, MQA said foreign authorities had informed them that the courses the organisation has approved for teaching in the Maldives are being taught abroad.

“Courses MQA have approved are being taught at institutions we do not accept,” the notice said.

Additionally, the MQA said when they accredit a program, the approval is given for the program to be taught in the Maldives. The authority said they would not accept certificates through foreign institutions, even if they are “MQA approved”.

They urge higher education institutions to comply with the accreditation system.

While the MQA recognizes courses and programs developed in the Maldives taught abroad are a step forward for Maldivian education, they urge higher education institutions to do so within regulations. MQA said they were working on formulating a framework under which MQA-approved local courses can be taught at foreign institutions.
