The President of the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), Ahmed Faris Maumoon, declared that the party has opted not to endorse any candidate in the upcoming second round of the presidential election, during a press conference today.
He expressed his view that the candidates’ inability to secure 50 percent of the votes was indicative of their failure to present a comprehensive and fully-developed manifesto.
Furthermore, Faris noted that MRM had shared its proposals with the candidates and engaged in extensive discussions to identify points acceptable to both.
Faris emphasised that the nation is in need of reforms, but it could prove challenging for a president elected from a major political party to implement them effectively.
Faris highlighted that the MRM’s manifesto and proposals had received positive feedback from the public, inspiring the party to persist in its efforts. He also mentioned that the manifesto will serve as a foundation for the MRM’s participation in parliamentary elections.
