President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to providing housing for all individuals listed in the gazettes issued by the previous government, in a press conference at the President’s Office, yesterday.

During his election campaign, Muizzu stated that he would not revoke flats or land plots awarded by the previous government. Responding to inquiries from journalists, he reiterated his pledge to fulfill this commitment by assuring approved applicants, who may not have received registration certificates or title deeds.

The exception to this assurance applies to applicants who were deemed eligible based on fraudulent submissions with false information. Muizzu clarified that cases involving fraudulent activities would be scrutinized by agencies such as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

However, he distinguished between cases of fraudulent eligibility and investigations into complaints about irregularities in the approval process. Muizzu emphasised that complaints regarding irregularities in the allocation of housing were a separate matter.

He underscored that such cases could be subject to investigation by the ACC and other relevant agencies, and individuals found guilty could face criminal consequences. Muizzu concluded by emphasising the importance of addressing fraudulent practices to uphold the integrity of the housing allocation process.
