President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has confirmed that the anticipated launch of the e-wallet service is slated for May 2024.

The announcement came during an episode of the “Raees ge Javaabu” series, a platform where the President addresses queries from the public.

In response to a question posed by Abdulla Inan regarding the specific launch date of the e-wallet, Muizzu revealed that active preparations are currently underway for the introduction of this digital financial service. He expressed confidence in meeting the target launch date, aiming for no later than May.

The introduction of e-wallets is part of the government’s broader objective to introduce innovative financial services to the Maldives. Once operational, individuals will have the capability to execute monetary transactions using services akin to platforms like PayPal.

Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, had previously outlined the President’s vision to introduce e-wallets, facilitate service provision to international parties, and ensure accessibility of benefits to the populace.
