Muizzu Commits to Strengthening Business Ties with India

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his commitment to fostering stronger business relations between Maldivian and Indian entrepreneurs.
He underscored this focus during a meeting with Maldivians residing in New Delhi, held at the ICT Morea Hotel as part of his state visit to India.
In his address, Muizzu highlighted the enduring and close partnership between the Maldives and India, expressing optimism that his visit would contribute to further strengthening ties that mutually benefit both nations. He pointed to his administration’s commitment to enhancing areas of cooperation, especially in trade and economic exchange.
Muizzu also emphasised the importance of engaging with Maldivians abroad, explaining that such interactions provide him with insight into their experiences and challenges. Recognising that a substantial number of Maldivians come to India for medical treatment, education, and business opportunities, he acknowledged India’s significant role for many Maldivians.
In this context, Muizzu reiterated his intention to ensure that Maldivians living or travelling abroad receive full support from the Maldives Foreign Ministry. He assured that his administration is dedicated to providing comprehensive assistance, irrespective of location.
Turning to the business community, Muizzu noted that New Delhi is a prominent destination for Maldivian entrepreneurs, with aspirations to deepen trade ties across sectors such as trade and tourism. He expressed his vision of positioning New Delhi as a key hub for Maldivian business engagement in India.
Muizzu also held one-on-one discussions with Maldivians in New Delhi, inquiring about the specific support they might need. He assured them that consular services would be further streamlined through the Maldives Foreign Ministry and the Maldivian Consulate in New Delhi to address their needs effectively.
External Affairs Minister of India Pays a Courtesy Call on Muizzu
Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India, Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, paid a courtesy call on President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during the President’s ongoing state visit to India.
Dr Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in welcoming Muizzu to India, for the state visit. Muizzu conveyed his gratitude to the Indian government for the warm welcome extended to him and his delegation upon arrival.
At the meeting, Muizzu and the Minister spoke extensively on fostering and maintaining good ties between the two countries. The two sides reviewed the progress of current initiatives supported by the Government of India and discussed exploring additional avenues which both countries see mutual benefits in line with the current development priorities of the Maldives.
Providing affordable housing as well as quality healthcare services, tourism promotion, and expanding fisheries and agriculture sectors across the country were flagged as key areas of focus that largely impact the welfare of the people of the Maldives.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Muizzu and the Minister agreeing to broaden the existing relationship between the governments and people of the Maldives and India.
Muizzu and Sajidha Meet with the Maldivian Community Residing in New Delhi
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed met with the Maldivian community in New Delhi during their state visit to India.
During the meeting, Muizzu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting Maldivians abroad, highlighting the need for reforms in the country’s foreign policy to better serve the community and meet their needs.
Muizzu also took time to engage with the community, listening to their concerns and fostering a sense of connection and appreciation.
