In accordance with Article 84 of the Republic of Maldives Constitution, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has declared the day the President makes his Presidential Address to the Parliament a non-holiday every year.
The President’s Office issued a decree today declaring the day of the Presidential Address to be a non-holiday. This decree further indicated that the President’s Office had repealed the previous decree No. 4/2019.
The parliamentary recess concluded without additional sessions for ministerial approvals, with the commencement of the 2024 session set for February 5th.
During the opening session, as is customary, the President Dr Mohamed Muizzu is expected to deliver the Presidential Statement. This will mark Muizzu’s first such address since assuming office in November of the preceding year.
As per constitutional provisions, the presidential statement serves to elucidate the current state of the nation and articulate the President’s perspective on the necessary measures for its further improvement.
The upcoming session holds significance as it will be the last of the current parliament’s term, concluding on April 28 after a five-year tenure.
