Muizzu Departs New York After UNGA

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has departed New York after concluding his official visit to attend the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Saturday.
During his visit, President Muizzu delivered a statement at the General Debate of the 79th UNGA. Notably, he also addressed the United Nations Security Council, becoming the first Maldivian President to do so in the 59 years since the Maldives joined the UN. The President delivered multiple statements and co-chaired several sideline events, focusing on key global issues such as climate change, renewable energy, socio-economic challenges, and digitalisation.
In addition to his engagements at the UN, President Muizzu held a series of high-level bilateral and multilateral meetings, including discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and heads of delegations from other nations. He also took the opportunity to meet with members of the Maldivian community residing in New York.
As part of his visit, President Muizzu addressed Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs in the “Dean’s Leadership Series”. He also toured Google’s New York office.
The President’s participation in the 79th UNGA underscored the Maldives’ commitment to addressing pressing global challenges and strengthening international partnerships.
