Speaking to the assembled audience, Muizzu addressed allegations from the opposition concerning stalled development initiatives under the previous administration. He provided an overview of the advancements being made across diverse sectors in structural development.

Muizzu outlined that, upon the conclusion of the previous government’s tenure, numerous projects, encompassing 27 water and sewerage initiatives, 30 harbor constructions, land reclamation and beach protection ventures, as well as 17 road construction endeavours, had been halted.

Additionally, 84 projects for the construction of sports facilities, 90 projects in the education sector, 20 projects for mosque construction, seven projects for airport development, and 220 housing projects spanning 11 islands were also impacted.

Muizzu elucidated on the reasons behind the delays in these projects. He highlighted that the prior administration had made errors in drafting agreements and assigning projects, frequently prioritising political considerations over comprehensive planning.

Furthermore, Muizzu drew attention to instances of mismanagement and financial irregularities under the previous leadership. He outlined how certain companies were pressured into providing funds to specific party members, signed agreements, received advance payments, and subsequently abandoned the projects.

This resulted in the engagement of other companies, which, after receiving advance payments, encountered similar outcomes, the president added.

Muizzu’s remarks underscored the challenges inherited by the current administration and underscored ongoing efforts to rectify and advance stalled projects for the nation’s benefit.
