Muizzu Establishes National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has officially established the National Institute for Maldivian Heritage Research under the Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage.
The new institution was created in line with the President’s authority under Article 116 of the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, according to a press statement released by the president’s office on Thursday.
The president’s office further elaborates that the institute is being established under the framework provided by the President’s Office Directive 02/2024, which emphasizes the significance of cultural preservation and information sharing. According to the instruction, every official correspondence to the institution should be addressed with the allocated number 497, in line with the numbering scheme for state entities.
In the local language of Dhivehi, the institute will be known as “Dhivehi Tharika Dhiraasaakuraa Gaumee Marukazu”.
The press release further states that the institute’s activities will encompass a range of tasks, from revitalizing a sense of patriotism and national service to translating articles about the country from various languages into the local dialect, and translating traditional materials about the Maldives and its indigenous population into Dhivehi. These initiatives are designed to contribute to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the nation’s heritage.
