Muizzu Gov’t has Given No Further Concessions, Says Yameen
Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom expressed dissatisfaction with the current government for providing no additional concessions or relief, highlighting these concerns during a gathering of supporters after officially joining the newly formed political party People’s National Front (PNF).
The party, established under the name of his son, Zain Yameen, aims to uphold foundational principles in the interest of the nation.
Delving into specific issues, Yameen expressed reservations about agreements with India, stating they might compromise economic resources, roads, and air resources. He called for the expedited disclosure of these agreements, acceleration of the search for the missing sea area, and ensured withdrawal of Indian troops from Maldives. Yameen also raised concerns about the continuity of a political resolution preventing the withdrawal of Indian military forces.
Yameen asserted the people’s basic right to speak without conflicting with Islamic principles, expressing disappointment over being denied the opportunity to address supporters. He revealed unsuccessful attempts, through letters, to obtain permission for public communication. Attendees shared concerns about restricted communication, with corrections officials remaining silent on whether they had received any such letters.
Emphasising his commitment to national interest, Yameen highlighted that the formation of the PNF aims to uphold foundational principles. He reiterated the importance of allowing people to exercise their basic rights and urged the government to reconsider its stance on communication restrictions.
