President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced a reduction in the fee per tonne of waste deposited at Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) waste transfer stations in the Greater Male’ Region to MVR 500 from the current MVR 750.
This decision follows a prior reduction in service fees by WAMCO, which lowered the rate from MVR 1060 to MVR 750 at waste transfer stations in Male’ City, Hulhumale’, and Villimale’ earlier this year.
Speaking at a campaign event in Hulhumale’, Muizzu stated that the government aims to further ease the financial burden on citizens by reducing the service charges provided by WAMCO. He acknowledged that while rates for businesses and similar entities had already been reduced, they remained unaffordable for many members of the public.
Muizzu also indicated that WAMCO would soon announce the implementation date for the revised pricing structure. He stressed that this adjustment is intended to alleviate hardships faced by the public and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to addressing citizen concerns.
Furthermore, President Dr. Muizzu highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the operations of WAMCO and other State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). He underscored his administration’s achievements, including prudent financial management, maintaining currency value, reducing the dollar exchange rate, and providing relief measures to the public since taking office.
