Dr. Muizzu, the People’s National Congress (PNC) presidential candidate, has announced his intention to establish a registry and extend opportunities for social housing schemes for taxi drivers, should he secure victory in the upcoming presidential election.
Muizzu engaged with taxi centre proprietors and drivers as part of his presidential campaign efforts. During the interaction, he attentively listened to the issues raised by the taxi drivers and subsequently outlined his strategies to mitigate these challenges.
The absence of a centralised registry for taxi drivers emerged as a focal point in Muizzu’s remarks. He affirmed his commitment to addressing this issue by introducing an official national register that would include all taxi drivers under a distinct employment category.
Additionally, the proposed register is projected to have ancillary benefits. Taxi drivers who are included in the registry would potentially gain improved access to financial services such as bank loans and insurance facilities. Moreover, Muizzu’s plan extends to facilitating taxi drivers’ participation in social housing programmes and housing loan opportunities.
Muizzu’s proposition holds significance as it addresses fundamental concerns within the taxi driver community while also offering pathways to enhanced financial and housing prospects. This development comes as part of his broader campaign agenda in the lead-up to next month’s presidential election.
