In an address made during a gathering at three islands within the Guraidhoo constituency, Dr. Muizzu, the presidential candidate representing the PNC, unveiled plans to establish a dollar ATM service on the atolls.
This initiative is aimed at bringing convenient foreign exchange services outside the boundaries of Male’ city.
Dr. Muizzu emphasised the importance of expanding tourism to areas where accessible infrastructure is lacking. Highlighting Maafushi as a densely populated island with significant foreign currency transactions, he stressed the necessity of establishing a seamless method for conducting dollar transactions.
“Given that Maafushi predominantly engages in foreign currency transactions, it is imperative that we facilitate this process. Our vision is for Maafushi to become the pioneering dollar ATM village,” explained Muizzu.
Furthermore, Muizzu pledged to allocate the entirety of land rent revenue generated from businesses leasing council-owned land to the respective council. He cited instances where benefits intended for council lands were being diverted to central systems in certain islands.
Commenting on government actions, Muizzu criticized the decision to undertake land dredging without consulting local residents. As part of his proposed agenda, he outlined intentions to comprehensively dredge lands across three islands and optimize their utilization for maximum communal benefit.
In addition to this announcement, Muizzu provided insight into his campaign tour progress, revealing that he has successfully visited seven provinces thus far.
