President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated Mohamed Luwaiz as the Maldives Ambassador to Singapore and Dr. Salma Rasheed as the Permanent Representative of the Maldives Mission in Geneva.

Notably, Dr Salma is connected to the ruling party candidate for Maafannu Central constituency, Asma Rasheed, being her aunt. Moreover, familial ties extend further within diplomatic circles, as Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu), the appointed Ambassador to UAE by President Dr Muizzu, is Dr Salma’s nephew and Asma’s son.

Hailing from Ma. Dhilaasaage, Luwaiz brings a wealth of experience to the table, having previously served as Minister of State for Economic Relations at the President’s Office during the tenure of former President Abdulla Yameen. Additionally, he held a pivotal role as a Board Member of the Bank of Maldives during the same administration.

Transitioning into the post-election period, Luwaiz’s involvement in the Budget Committee formed by President Dr Muizzu underscores his continued engagement in governmental affairs. Furthermore, his active participation in President Dr Muizzu’s presidential campaign activities highlights his allegiance to the current administration.

Both Luwaiz and Dr Salma’s nominations now await review by the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, marking the next step in the appointment process.
