Muizzu Restructures Cabinet and Merges Key Ministries

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced several cabinet changes today, including the merger of key ministries and a reshuffle of ministerial posts.

As part of the changes, the Ministry of Finance has been expanded to include planning and renamed the Ministry of Finance and Planning. The ministry will remain under the leadership of the current Finance Minister, Moosa Zameer.

The Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Construction have been combined to form the new Ministry of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure, which will be led by Dr. Abdulla Muththalib. Dr. Ali Haidar, who previously served as Housing Minister, has been appointed as the Minister of Higher Education, Skill Development, and Labour.

Dr. Maryam Mariya, the former Minister of Higher Education, who temporarily oversaw the Ministry of Agriculture following Dr. Rameela’s resignation, has now been formally appointed as Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare.

This marks the second reshuffle of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s cabinet during his current term.

In October, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel was appointed as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs after serving as Minister of Health. Moosa Zameer, previously the Minister of Foreign Affairs, took on the role of Minister of Finance, succeeding Dr. Mohamed Shafeeq. Abdulla Nazim, who previously held a ministerial role at the President’s Office, was named the new Minister of Health.
