Muizzu Sets Deadline for Indian Troops Withdrawal by March

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially requested for the withdrawal of all Indian troops from the Maldives, setting a deadline of March 15th.
The move follows the initiation of official talks between Maldives and India regarding the withdrawal of Indian military personnel stationed in the country.
Negotiations commenced at the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Male’ today, reflecting a crucial step in addressing the presence of Indian forces in the Maldives. Ibrahim Khaleel, the Minister at the President’s Office for Strategic Communications, disclosed that the meeting is part of the high-level core group established through mutual agreement between the two nations.
This decision was reached during a meeting between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of COP28 in December.
Khaleel elaborated that the core group is currently engaged in discussions concerning the withdrawal of Indian military personnel and the prompt implementation of India-backed development projects in the Maldives.
