President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has underscored the necessity of passing over two hundred bills to honour the commitments made to the populace, emphasising the crucial importance of securing a parliamentary majority for this purpose.
Speaking at a gathering adjacent to the Hiyaa Flats in Hulhumale’ Phase 2 last evening, the President articulated that achieving optimal outcomes under the current administration hinges on victory in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
Muizzu reiterated the pivotal role of parliament in facilitating the fulfilment of promises to citizens, elaborating on the imperative of passing more than 200 bills to advance these objectives. He stressed the impossibility of achieving these goals without parliamentary support.
Highlighting key legislative priorities, the President outlined forthcoming bills pertaining to land, housing, and real estate, aimed at aligning the Maldives with models observed in developed, densely populated urban centres globally. He emphasised the need for representatives who would expedite these initiatives.
Additionally, Muizzu advocated for support towards candidates from the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)/ People’s National Congress (PNC) coalition, urging voters to break from the status quo prevailing in parliament over the past four months.
He reiterated his government’s lack of backing from the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)-led parliament, characterising recent political dynamics in the Maldives as entrenched in a cycle of negativity marked by reprisals and political victimisation.
Muizzu distanced himself from such practices, affirming his commitment to eradicating the culture of political vendetta, a pledge integral to his administration’s agenda. He assured a steadfast dedication to serving the nation and fostering peace and harmony.
Muizzu concluded by asserting that the realisation of these objectives relies on garnering trust and cooperation from the electorate in the upcoming parliamentary election.
