President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that youth play a vital role in ensuring the digital economy contributes 15 percent of the national GDP by 2030.
He made the remarks while addressing participants at the Youth Coffee with the President session, held to conclude the two-day National Youth Conference organised by the Presidential Youth Advisory Board and the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Information and Arts.
According to the President’s Office, President Muizzu highlighted that expanding sectors such as tourism, fisheries, construction, and the digital economy create greater opportunities for young people. He announced that the Administration aims for the digital economy to account for 15 percent of GDP by 2030, opening significant opportunities for youth.
President Muizzu outlined planned initiatives under the Maldives 2.0 programme, describing it as a revolutionary national project with transformative effects on daily life. He urged young people to take an active role in implementing the programme. Legislation for Maldives 2.0 will be submitted to Parliament in the upcoming sitting to provide the necessary legal framework. Consolidation of data across government agencies will enable a national data exchange network and ensure every national identity card becomes fully digital by the end of 2027, allowing citizens to access all services digitally.
