Muizzu Urges Vigilance Against Foreign Influence

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has urged citizens to remain vigilant against the influence of foreign powers while extending his greetings on the occasion of the 46th Martyrs’ Day today.

Martyrs’ Day commemorates the brave sacrifice of Sultan Ali VI, a revered national hero who lost his life battling Portuguese forces in 1558. Since its inception in 1980, the Maldives has observed this day on the first day of the month of Shaʻban in the Islamic calendar.

In his speech, Muizzu reflected on Sultan Ali VI’s sacrifice, highlighting its enduring lessons for the Maldivian people. He underscored the dangers of succumbing to selfishness and betrayal, citing historical examples of foreign manipulation and local complicity.
