President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu revealed plans to install two additional lifts in each of the Hiyaa towers situated in Hulhumalé Phase II, with one of the two lifts specially designed to accommodate stretchers.

The announcement was made during a meeting with Hiyaa residents on a Friday evening.

Muizzu reassured the community of his commitment to fulfilling all the electoral pledges made to the Hiyaa area during his term. He further detailed the plan to enhance the infrastructure of Hiyaa towers by introducing two additional lifts per tower.

The President-elect expressed his gratitude for the support received from the Hiyaa area during his presidential campaign in September. This move aligns with a promise he made in his election manifesto, where he emphasised the feasibility of installing additional lifts in Hiyaa towers, adhering to engineering standards.

However, at that time, only one additional lift per tower was proposed.

The development of Hiyaa towers began during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, with Muizzu overseeing the project as the head of the Housing Ministry. Following the occupancy of the towers, residents raised concerns about the inadequate number of lifts, leading to long queues and inconvenience.

Currently, each Hiyaa tower is equipped with three lifts, which often results in congestion and delays.

Vice President-elect Hussain Mohamed Latheef (Sembe) also accompanied President-elect Muizzu during the meeting with Hiyaa residents.
